Cyr tied for 8th in Q School first stage

Sam Cyr, a 2005 King Kekaulike graduate, two-time NAIA champion for Point Loma Nazarene University, 2010 Mid-Pacific Open champion, 2010 Hawaii State Open champ, and 2011 Maui Open champ, fired a first-round 3-under 69 at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif., in the first stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School today.
Cyr is tied for eighth in the four-round tournament that will send the top 18 players and ties to the second stage. He had an eagle 3 on the fifth hole, birdies on 1, 9 and 10, and bogeys on 8 and 12.
Cyr is currently 68th on the Asian Tour money list with $39,473.21 earned in 13 events. His best finish and paycheck is his t-9th at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters, where he won $10,320.
Cyr recently cracked the Official World Golf Rankings — he is 995th on the list after being 991st last week.
