Lunas looking for sixth straight shutout, lead 28-0 at halftime
October 7, 2012 - Robert Collias
HALFTIME UPDATE: The Lunas lead 28-0 at the break with the help of — what else? — their defense. Two pick sixes gave them a 14-0 lead before their offense took the field and the offense struck in two plays for one score and drove for the next. Read all about it in Sunday's sports section.
A week before their second showdown with Baldwin, the Lahainaluna football team takes on Kamehameha Maui tonight in an important battle for control of the MIL second round in Division II play.
Both teams are 1-0 in the second round, but the similarities end there. The Lunas have shut out all five of their opponents in MIL play — they lead the league on offense, too — while the Warriors are last on defense in the league and third offensively.
Kamehameha (2-3 MIL overall) will also be without starting QB Kalai Yap. The Lunas come in fairly healthy, but they are small in roster size.
Meanwhile, with Baldwin looming next week, the question tonight appears to be can they carry their incredible shutout streak into that contest.
Stay tuned right here for — I will attempt them after each quarter.
