Toast to wine and food at inaugural Wailea event

October 2, 2012 - Carla Tracy

Word has it that tickets are now on sale for the first Wailea Wine & Food Festival to be uncorked Dec. 6 to 9 at various Wailea resort venues.

Master sommelier Fred Dame will head up the inaugural affair. Many of you may know him as the former emcee of the Kapalua Wine & Food Festival for several years. Now, he’ll bring his master sommelier pals to head up this event on Maui’s sunny south side.

The Wailea Resort Association announces tickets are now on sale at Wailea Wine & Food Festival.

It will be a four-day culinary extravaganza showcasing exceptional wines from around the world paired with the award-winning cuisine of Wailea Resort chefs, including Hawaii Regional Cuisine founding members Alan Wong of Alan Wong’s Amasia, Peter Merriman of Monkeypod Kitchen, Bev Gannon of Gannon’s and Joe’s, and Mark Ellman of Mala Wailea.

“We are thrilled to bring this unique new experience to the residents and guests of Wailea Resort, says Bud Pikrone, general manager of the Wailea Resort Association. “We promise legendary winemakers, fantastic cuisine and eight master sommeliers ready to share exciting new trends in food and wine. We can’t wait to kick off this fantastic new event.”

Venues will include the Four Seasons Resort Maui, The Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui, the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa and the Grand Wailea.

Educational and interactive seminars include “Pinot Passion,” “Three Decades of Cabernet,” “Escape To Italy in Eight Glasses,” and “Wine & Cheese – The Perfect Pairing” – to be led by Wailea’s Ann Tuomela, owner of Guava, Gouda & Caviar.

Other stand-out events include the “DaVine Experience Under The Stars”at the Grand Wailea resort’s Reflection Pools Lawn with cutting edge cuisine paired with over 75 wineries from around the world; and “Grillin’ & Chillin’ – Where There’s Smoke, There’s Wine” – a laid back Sunday barbecue with picnic tables and live music oceanside at the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa.

In addition, an array of winemaker dinners will be held throughout the weekend at Wailea Resort restaurants with participating wineries such Justin Vineyards, Palmina Wines and Wind Gap, to name a few.

You may also bid silent auction items and proceeds will benefit the Maui Culinary Academy at UH Maui College.
