Suzuki talks about trade to Nats
August 4, 2012 - Robert Collias
We were the only local news outlet to catch up with Maui's Kurt Suzuki Friday to get his reaction on his trade to the Washington Nationals after spending the first six years of his major league career with the Oakland A's.
He was gracious enough to return out call from a gate at the San Francisco Airport as he waited for his flight to Washington, D.C. He will be in the starting lineup tonight against the Miami Marlins and has been told that the No. 1 catching job is his for the stretch run for the first-place Nats.
The move, which appeared off after the non-waiver trade deadline passed on, shocked Suzuki and his teammates, according to this story from the San Francisco Chronicle.
Of course, Suzuki is the second Maui major leaguer to be traded this week — joining Shane Victorino, who went from the Phillies to the Dodgers on Tuesday.
