Do you love ripe and juicy cherries?
July 9, 2012 - Carla Tracy
Northwest Cherries has selected one iconic restaurant in each U.S. state to create and feature a unique Rainier Cherry menu item honor of National Rainier Cherry Day, coming right up on Wednesday, July 11.
“I'm excited to announce that Longhi's Lahaina has been selected from Hawaii and it will offer a special cherry dish in the second week of July, in the peak of Rainier cherry season,” says publicist Julie Pinson.
“Each restaurant will receive approximately $400 worth of free rainier cherries to play with (40 pounds) and incorporate on their menu. In representing your wonderful state, Executive Chef Armando Quintero has created an exclusive recipe.”
Pinson goes on to say that “Cherries have also recently made headlines after a scientific study has revealed their significant health benefits. Sweet cherries — including the golden-blushed Rainier and iconic Bing varieties, among others — are known for their high fiber and low calorie count. From fighting the onset of Alzheimer’s to improving joint flexibility, cherries are beginning to prove they pack more than just a punch of flavor. When the sweet cherries hit grocery store shelves this year, health-conscious consumers will now have several more reasons to eat handfuls of cherries, beyond the delicious taste.”
