Jahns signs with Windy City Thunderbolts, Mochizuki retires

June 21, 2012 - Robert Collias
Recent Northwestern University graduate Michael Jahns — the MIL Player of the Year in 2007 for St. Anthony — has signed his first professional pitching contract with the Windy City Thunderbolts of the Frontier League, one of the top independent leagues out there.

Jahns has a 3.86 ERA after two appearances for the Thunderbolts. He had hopes of being selected a couple weeks ago in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, but his name was not called.

In related news, former Baldwin, New York Mets farmhand and Na Koa Ikaika Maui standout Gered Mochizuki retired a week ago after hitting .102 in 18 games for the Lake Erie Crushers, also of the Frontier League.

Mochizuki mesmerized Na Koa fans in 2010, flirting with .400 for most of the season before settling for a .384 mark that was third in the Golden Baseball League for a team that set a GBL record for wins.

Both Jahns and Mochizuki have had interest from Na Koa this season.
