Savor The Sunset benefit for Lahaina Public Library
June 20, 2012 - Carla Tracy
Mark Ellman of Mala Wailea, Mala Ocean Tavern and Honu Seafood & Pizza fame is a busy man. He cooked a monster size pan of seafood paella that dazzled the VIP crowd at private party at Mala Wailea last week during the Maui Film Festival at Wailea. His partner in that business, impresario Shep Gordon, and his friends were impressed by the look of the dish and the ingredients such as sweet Kauai shrimp.
Now, we hear Ellman will be the host and emcee Friday, June 22 at the Savor The Sunset benefit for Lahaina Public Library. It will be held at the Royal Lahaina Resort in Kaanapali and the meal will be cooked by the resort’s executive chef Bernardo Salazar.
“Up to 400 are expected to feast on Italian-style pasta and other dishes. The third annual benefit described as ‘the party of the year in West Maui’ will feature the hot, hot JD on the Rocks Band and a free wine tasting,” says event publicist Norm Bezane. “Last year was a sellout.”
The menu includes an appetizer of a mini antipasti plate and a entrees from the pasta action station, where you may top linguine or penne with pesto or marinara sauce as well as sauteed mushrooms, olives, caramelized onions, peppers, diced shrimp and/or diced chicken.
Advance tickets are $50, with some possibly available at the door for $60 per person.
“The proceeds from key sales and scores of auction items will help to complete the face lift of the interior of the library scheduled to get underway in July,” according to the press release. “Bid on these coveted auction items including a five -day stay at a historic Monterey Bay, California area beach house.”
