Eat right and exercise for health

With fast-food, sugary drinks and sedentary lifestyles growing in America, we need to reexamine the ways we eat and excerise.

“Healthy Hearts: How NOT to get a Heart Attack” will be presented by Dr. Steve Blake, ScD from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Whole Foods Kahului.

“This informative and fun slide show will expand your knowledge of food fats and blood cholesterol,” says Dr. Blake. “Learn more about how to further reduce the risks of heart attacks, strokes, and blocked arteries. What about cholesterol and trans fats? Learn how to unclog arteries through eating certain foods. Tips given for exercise and stress reduction, too.”

The presentation is free and open to the public.

In addition, his wife, Catherine Blake will do a presentation on “Summer Meals for Swimsuit Season” from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Haiku on Maui’s north shore.

“Lighten Up and feel well fed! Learn how to create whole food, plant-based meals that are high in antioxidants and natural fibers. Together let's make Veggie Lover's Pizza, Yummy Greens Power drink, and Magical Magenta Carrot juice,” she says.

The fee of $20 includes lunch and a farm tour. Register early: 572-9300.
