RSVP to tonight’s showing of ‘Weight of the Nation”
May 9, 2012 - Carla Tracy
The world knows that Americans are fat, and there are those out there who want to do something about it. Sandra McGuinness, coordinator of N-PAC, the Nutrition & Physical Activity Coalition of Maui County, is one of them.
“An advanced screening of HBO's documentary, ‘The Weight of the Nation,’ is set for May 9, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's McCoy Theater,” she says.
The showing of "Consequences," is also part of the package, one segment of the four-part documentary. It’s sponsored by Kaiser Permanente Hawaii and is part of a public health campaign about weight-related issues.
“ ‘The Weight of the Nation’ features case studies and interviews with leading experts and with individuals and families struggling with obesity,” says McGuinness. " ’Consequences’ examines the scope of the obesity epidemic and explores the serious health consequences of being overweight or obese.”
For those who can’t make the showing tonight, the documentary series debuts May 14 on HBO. More information may be found at theweightofthenation.hbo.com No recording devices are permitted.
