Seeing the light
May 2, 2012 - Harry Eagar
I sympathize, though only a little bit, with the president about the Afghanistan war. He inherited it, along with an incompetent military. No very satisfactory solution presents itself.
But only a tin ear would announce that we are seeing the light of dawn. Sounds way too much like "light at the end of the tunnel."
Obama is younger than I am. Can he be so young he never heard that mantra of an earlier incompetent military? I bet his speechwriters are younger than he is, too. He needs youth to seem trendy, but he needs to keep one old, irascible editor on the team to point out, well, the obvious.
Lots of people need editors. Few realize it. Obama is no different from the ordinary Joe there.
