King Kekaulike's John Eddins chooses school
April 21, 2012 - Robert Collias
John Eddins, perhaps the best overall male volleyball player I have covered in my 22 years at The Maui News, has chosen the school where he will continue his career — Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. The unbeaten Na Alii will be the favorites to wrap up their first MIL title in the sport at next week's league tournament and I think have a chance to make some noise at state.
Eddins is not only a supreme talent on the court, he is a classy, well-spoken young man. He was considering the University of Hawaii, where there is no doubt that he could have helped a team that lost 20 matches for the first time in school history this season.
I received this email from Eddins Friday:
Aloha Mr. Collias,
I just wanted to shoot you an email thanking you for all your coverage of Na'ali'i boys volleyball. These last two years you have really written fantastic articles on our team, and I consider you a huge role in my signing with college and having the opportunity to play Division III volleyball. I will be attending Stevens Institute of New Jersey in Hoboken, NJ next year on a full ride. I will be receiving a great education and play volleyball and I just wanted to include you in my thanks for making that happen.
Take care, I appreciate all you've done
