Na Koa game off today, some links
August 10, 2011 - Robert Collias
By now many of y'all know that tonight's game between Na Koa Ikaika Maui and the Lake County Fielders is off.
WKRS radio in Lake County, Ill., posted this stuff on its Facebook page earlier today, saying it would not be broadcasting today's game.
And there is this, where a Maui front-office member can manage to talk to the Chicago Daily Herald, but apparently can not step through the press box door to let the local paper know precisely what is going on. Lake County appears to be closer than ever to folding completely.
And here is the Save the Lake County Fielders" Facebook page with some very interesting comments, worth a click for sure.
And there is this vague, simple statement from the Fielders team Facebook page:
"This evening's game in Maui will not be played. We will attempt to keep you updated as best as possible with the status for tomorrow's game. Thank you for your patience."
Hard to imagine if they are not here today — if you missed it, Maui team vice president Bob Elder announced in the fifth inning Tuesday night that this four-game series was on — that the Fielders will get on a plane tomorrow to land and then play three games here. After all, Lake County was off on Tuesday, presumably for travel.
What does Maui do for its 11-game set in Lake County that is supposed to begin next Tuesday? Does Maui play the final 12 games of the season on the road if both of these Lake County series do not take place?
All questions I will be looking for answer to this evening.
Again, I am on the situation and will be at the ballpark to update, get reaction and find out if this team will play again this season at Maehara Stadium, or at all.
