Pacific Whale Foundation Ocean Camp

DESCRIPTION: Ocean Camp offers children a that will expand their knowledge about science and the ocean. Each day is designed to help children make direct connections with the wildlife and habitats they are learning about. The camp program includes field trips and adventures, including surfing and windsurfing lessons, tidepool explorations, snorkel cruises, trips to the Maui Ocean Center and beach visits. The program also offers games, art and hands-on science exploration. Ocean Camp is led by members of the marine education team from Pacific Whale Foundation, who have years of teaching and camp experience. The camps offer a 1:10 teacher-to-camper ratio. Children can be enrolled in single or multiple days. Camp is organized around weekly themes: May 27-30, Playful Pinnipeds; June 2-6, Rainforests of the Sea; June 9-13, Spineless Wonders; June 16-20, Delve into the Deep; June 23-27, Scavenging Sharks; June 30-July 3, Wild About Whales; July 7-11, Mighty Molluscs; July 14-18, Totally Tubular Turtles; July 21-25, Ocean Odonotcetes.

PALS Sports and Cultural Day Camp Program

DESCRIPTION: PALS offers a safe and nurturing recreation program. Activities include music and dance, arts and crafts, language, ethnic customs, folklore, food, team sports, skill drills and noncompetitive sports and games. Program’s staff-to-child ratio is 1:20.

REGISTRATION: Central Maui registration will be from 3 to 7 p.m. April 17 at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku. Final registration for Maui island locations will be from 3 to 7 p.m. April 24 at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center. D.T. Fleming Arboretum Summer Fun 2014

South Maui Summer Explorers Program

Sleep with the Sharks

DESCRIPTION: Sleepover participants will have the unique opportunity to witness the nocturnal behavior of the aquarium’s marine animals with an exciting night adventure tour of the Living Reef. Children will learn about the nighttime behavior of sharks and discover how some animals can make their own light. Activities include a supervised turtle feed, ocean-themed games, hands-on discovery lessons, crafts and movies. At 11 p.m., it is lights out and time for everyone to tuck into their sleeping bags to sleep with the sharks. Participants will wake up to observe the Open Ocean or Sea Jellies exhibits, feed more critters and enjoy a continental breakfast before departure. (Activities are subject to change.)
