Maui visitor takes advantage of ocean offerings

Wading in tide pools, occasionally flitting into the air to escape crashing waves, an ulili, or wandering tattler, hunts for breakfast along the edge of the shorebreak Tuesday morning at Hookipa Beach Park. The shorebirds are winter visitors to Maui who usually leave for the long flight to Alaska in April. Some nonbreeding birds skip the flight north and stay in Hawaii through the summer.
